Vitamins are essential nutrients for the growth, development, and maintenance of cells, tissues, and organs. Vitamins are classified as either water-soluble or fat-soluble. For humans, there are 13 vitamins: 4 fat-soluble (A, D, E, and K) and 9 water-soluble (8 B vitamins and vitamin C). These nutrients are typically obtained through the consumption of food or dietary supplements, which are subject to vitamin testing in order to meet specific labeling requirements.
